It’s that time of year again! As newly engaged couples plan their weddings and just in time for Valentines Day, One of Ireland’s most popular wedding bands, The Controversial Allstars have let the secret slip about some of Ireland’s most popular and the more unusual first dance songs.
Perhaps it won’t come as a surprise that amongst the more popular first dances include Ed Sheeran, Al Green, Kodaline, U2, The Coronas, Picture This and Etta James ( a serious nod to homegrown Irish songwriters).
What will surprise people is some of the more unusual and non traditional songs used by Irish couples over the years. “We’ve been on the road a long time and meet other bands, we’ve heard stories of some interesting first dances. One couple had Enter Sandman by Metallica, another couple had the Benny Hill theme tune” said frontman Dave Browne. ” I suppose one of the more unusual ones we’ve had might be Let’s Get It On, Green Onions by Booker T and the M.G’s, Madonna’s Like a Virgin and Right Said Fred’s Deeply Dippy! Everyone’s song choices are an extension of their personality and add character to each event, we love seeing what the next first dance will be!””
The Controversial Allstars are one of Ireland’s most popular wedding bands. Fronted by singers Ingrid Madsen and Picture House front man Dave Browne who celebrated 21 years in the music business last year with tributes from all over including Bono and President Michael D Higgins, the line up is completed by a host of Ireland’s finest musicians.
